Kevin was involved with British brass bands most of his life. An excellent euphonium
player as a youth, he played in the national youth band in England. He soon began
writing and arranging music for brass bands and was equally successful in those
endeavors. It was a natural progression that Kevin eventually was asked to direct a brass
band. He is a wonderful director and has directed bands on both sides of the
Atlantic.
A visitor who watched a rehearsal one night was amazed that anyone would sit through his demanding and exacting conducting. She was surprised that one person sat through it, and she was more amazed that 35 or more people sat through the two-hour rehearsal without complaint.
Talking with her friend who invited her to the rehearsal, he explained that they sat through it because they wanted to be a good (or even great) band and they knew they must submit to this authority and judgment if they were going to achieve their goals.
