"Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up." Paul is sharing his gospel in the epistle that love is really the constructive force at work in the world, that love which is inspired by devotion to God, as God has made God's revelation known to humankind through Christ. For Paul, it is Christian love, agape, not eros, that yields insight into the nature of God and therefore of reality itself and that binds the fellowship of Christians together in mutual service and understanding and forbearance.
