A leader of a mainline Protestant body deplored the problem of church closings in his denomination. Because of a decline in church attendance and the absence of member financial support, churches are closed, but are often sold to other denominations, who take the same buildings in the very same neighborhoods and build strong churches. Many leaders see the omission of tithing and investment as a central factor in church decline in certain communities.
