Life would be simpler if someone drew the line for us in as clear cut a manner as this: choose life or choose death! But that seldom happens. Seldom in our lives do we face such a big either/or. Rather, we make the big choices about how we live our lives in the million little choices we make every day. Each of those little choices moves us one way or another unaware, to life or to death.
My father did not choose an early death caused by lung cancer. He did choose to keep smoking, day after day, and one led to the other, as though he had chosen. A teen does not choose to be an addict, just to get high once in a while with his friends. The one leads to the other, as though he had chosen. Sometimes it is easier to face the big choices, when they are put before us clearly, than the little choices through which we make big choices every day, without really knowing it.
