The lifetime goal of a famous Spanish painter was to create a great masterpiece, a large painting of Jesus and his disciples in the Upper Room. He labored long and hard over the project, with meticulous attention to detail. When the beautiful picture was finished, the artist invited his friends to come for the unveiling and a celebration. They admired the painting and showered lavish praise. One commented, "Those goblets on the table are exquisite. Nothing else is so beautifully done." The artist responded, "Oh, then they must come out." Another friend remarked, "That tapestry on the wall is the high spot of your painting. It looks so real I can almost touch it!" Again the painter said, regretfully, "Then I must paint it out. You see, I cannot allow anything to detract from the center of the picture, which is Christ."
