Many software companies offer a trial version of their new software at their web site. This version is designed only to demonstrate what the full product can do, while at the same time withholding the full features of the full package. I recently downloaded a crossword creator program. With this trial program I was limited to a certain sized grid, offered only two types of puzzles, and could use only a very limited vocabulary. Enough features were available to me, however, that I was able to make a reasonably informed decision as to whether I wanted to purchase the full program.
