Martin Luther was sure that everyone would believe his gospel when he let loose his rediscovery of the gospel. Much to his chagrin, he discovered otherwise. Kathy Urquhart in A. J. Cronin's novel, The Judas Tree, appeals to David Moray to accompany her on a medical mission to dark Africa. She pleads, "As Uncle Willie says, 'We must prove love is stronger than hatred, show that courage, self-denial and charity can defeat brutality, selfishness and fear.' "
