Mary illustrates the quality of a disciplined devotion to paying attention. The Dekalb County (Georgia) police department recently arrested a man accused of a string of twelve bank robberies. The crime spree took place around the northern perimeter of the city of Atlanta. The interesting thing about the arrest was the manner in which the criminal was apprehended. Using statistical surveys, computers identified a pattern not easily identifiable to police. The pattern suggested that the perpetrator would rob one of three banks during a four-day period between the hours of 9 a.m. and 12 noon.
