Maybe you've played hide and...
Illustration
Maybe you've played hide and seek with a very young child, one that is a year old or so. How does the child play? When it's the child's turn to hide, he doesn't run behind a chair or sneak under a table. No, all he does is cover his eyes. And by doing that, the child figures that if he can't see you, then you're not really there. And if you're not really there, then you can't possibly find him. But then when the child takes his hands away and opens his eyes, he figures that he has found you, even though you've been sitting there the whole time.
