Most of us are pretty glib when we talk about a president or a king or queen or prime minister or someone of power or prestige. "She's just another person like me," we say. "He has to put on his pants one leg at a time like everyone else," we add. And we pretend that were such a person to appear among us we would just extend our hand like we would to anyone else, greeting him/her with a "Howdy, old buddy/sister. It's nice to meet you."
