My friend, who was also raised in a parsonage, told me that someday he wanted to be like his father and be a pastor. But first he wanted to have the kind of job that produced some wealth and guaranteed security. For too many years he had watched his parents deny themselves the many things that their parishioners experienced. He wanted to vacation in Florida, have a second home at the lake, allow his children to go to college without working, drive a car that was comfortable, and hire someone to take care of the yard. His parents never experienced those things.
