My grandfather was a piano tuner during the depression. Knowing that money was tight for everyone, he often charged less than his (already reduced) $10 rate that he charged most people. However, once in a while, a few of his more affluent clients would say, "I want a $20 tuning." Thinking he would do a better job and take more care on tuning, they offered more money. The truth is, he took pride in his work and tuned every piano with care.
