Niels Bohr pioneered the quantum...

Niels Bohr pioneered the quantum theory of nuclear physics, and for it the Copenhagen-born scientist won the Nobel Prize. This is one serious nuclear scientist. So it surprised an American scientist, on his visit to Bohr's office in Copenhagen, to see a horseshoe on the wall. Could be a call for attention to detail, a reminder of the fable about "for want of a nail the horse was lost...." But this horseshoe was nailed to the wall with the open end up, like a cup. It was obviously a good luck horseshoe, cupping the luck so it wouldn't run out.
