Nobody can see the wind, but thanks to the Canadian Wind Energy Atlas, companies and individuals who wish to use wind energy can look forward and backward in time to generate very detailed snapshots of wind patterns. The atlas was created using a technology known as WEST, Wind Energy Simulation Toolkit. By understanding the wind patterns, people who plan to set up wind farms or even individual wind turbines can do so with greater precision; they can place these farms or turbines where they will be exposed to the most wind.
