Nothing brings praise to our lips like a crisis that has been resolved!
There was a young man in the church whose love for the Lord was waning. The cares of the world crowded in on him, and he had less and less time for God. His attendance at worship and church school was sporadic. His presence was missed at church socials, and the administrative board seldom benefited from his input. When the pastor followed up on his absence, the response was always the same: too many things were happening in his life, but just give him a few more weeks. As soon as he could tie up some loose ends, he'd be in church again. The situation continued for several months with no improvement.
One day the young man's wife left him. The worldly cares were more than she could handle, too. It was then he remembered the goodness of God.
After several counseling sessions with the pastor, the crisis was resolved and the marriage was restored. Praise and thanksgiving bubbled up from within him! He found a new joy and rejoiced in God's goodness. He was spiritually alive again, and he put God first in his life.
Israel's story is similar. Both the young man and the nation of Israel learned to praise God for every act of goodness and mercy. It's a shame the lessons are so costly!
