An old hymn, which we don't sing much any longer, had a refrain which stated, "I believe the Bible is true; the old as well as the new." That sentiment seems consistent with the teaching of Jesus. He valued the moral and ethical teaching of the Old Testament, as well as using its insights to the nature and purposes of God toward his people. We Christians need to be quite careful in order to avoid giving the impression that we gain moral superiority from the insights of the New Testament over and against the Old Testament.
