An older preacher seemed to have an uncanny ability to speak a wise or insightful word at just the right time. During one period of upheaval it seemed clear to everyone that surely something had to be said. But the older preacher simply remained silent. Popular opinion was against him, his position seemed hopelessly out of date and out of vogue. In a quiet moment of reflection later he was asked why he didn't speak up.
