One of the most difficult situations for any minister is that of trying to comfort a church family after the death of a child. As a young student serving a weekend pastorate, I was called to the house of a widow just after her young son died in an accident. The grief of the woman was understandably intense and I felt very inadequate for the task of consoling minister. A short time after the funeral, I walked up to the house of the widow, extremely nervous as I wondered what I could say or do on this visit to comfort the grieving mother.
