One of the most successful executives of the last century was Sam Walton. He founded Wal-Mart in the small town of Bentonville, Arkansas, and built it into a great powerhouse retailer. One key to Mr. Sam's success was watching over his inventory. He took inventory of his stores often. Eventually Wal-
Mart got so big that the company employed hundreds of thousands of employees. Each one had a small niche of inventory over which they had accountability. Sam Walton had the gift of discernment. He took inventory of his business and took inventory of himself. Mr. Sam followed Christ and served God with special gifts he possessed. He was a good Christian who took his stewardship very seriously, and he knew when it was time to work and when it was time to serve. The Apostle Paul is taking an inventory of spiritual gifts. He is asking each Christian to be accountable for the gifts they have in their lives. Every Christian serves the same God but in special ways. In turn, God works in each of us to nurture those gifts (v. 6). We must take inventory of our gifts and make them useful in the Kingdom of God.
