One preacher tells the story of a young boy who grew up with parents who both had Ph.D.'s and a grandmother who had no formal education. At the dinner table one night the boy asked his father a difficult theological question. "Daddy," said the boy, "what's the meaning of grace?" "Well, son, grace is the manifestation of God's ultimate will under intricate and providential circumstances," said the father, somewhat perplexed. The boy did not quite understand. Late one evening, going to bed, he stopped by his grandmother's room. "Grandma, do you know the meaning of grace?" "Sure, boy, I'm an expert on grace," said the grandmother joyfully. "Grace is when God sees fit to give you what you need when you didn't know you needed it or you didn't deserve to get it. Grace is a helping hand during hard times. Grace is God having a mind to give us a loving touch when the world and people become ice cold. Were it not for the grace of God I wouldn't be here right now answering your question and you wouldn't be here asking it. God's grace is the most important thing we could ever have. Without it, we could not enjoy the gifts of creation or the many blessings of this precious life." -- Stewart
