One Sunday, sitting in worship...

One Sunday, sitting in worship, I prepared for the reading of God's Word which I usually
experience as a "dreary" experience as the reader comes with no emotion, no connection,
no understanding that it is God's Word for us. On this Sunday, it was different. A young
man in college came to read the Word. He opened his Bible and he painted the picture of
the text with a little background. He read it with emotion and connection that God had
spoken to him in the lesson and he was sharing that connection with the people. All
around me, people perked up as the Word was read that morning. It was as if they were
hearing the lesson for the first time and they were encountering its life-changing message.
How often do we just read scripture because it is what we are to do? How more joyful to
read it when we connect with it as God speaks to us in the Word made flesh in Jesus
Christ.
