Our Iceberg Is Melting, by John Kotter is a delightful tale of penguins living on
an iceberg in Antarctica.
The story begins with one of the penguins making an alarming discovery. Their home, their iceberg is melting. If nothing is done, the entire colony will soon be in grave danger. A community meeting is called for all of the penguins to review the findings.
Surprisingly, not all of the penguins take this warning to heart. Several outright denied that there was a problem. The information shared at the meeting was nonsense, faulty data. Several of the penguins tried their best to discredit the penguin who conducted the study. Others in the colony formed a group to study the findings and then made final recommendations to the community. Over the next several months, they met to study the problem and discuss possible recommendations. This group seemed to like meeting together, but no action or recommendations ever came from them.
Finally, there was one penguin who remedied the problem by finding a new iceberg where all of the penguins could live for many years. To find a new home took considerable risk and much effort. Eventually, all of the penguins moved safely to the new iceberg. Problem solved!
Jeremiah did not have an easy time speaking the word of God to the people. Oftentimes it was a message the people really did not want to hear. However, Jeremiah did not back down -- but proclaimed the word of God.
