In our religious history, the historical people of faith resided in the desert wilderness. It is no wonder that water, often in so limited supply, should become a major symbol of God's goodness. When we are physically thirsty, nothing sounds so good as a shower or finding a flowing stream. One of our soft drink manufacturers recently built a whole advertising campaign on television around the idea that drinking a can of their product is like being out in a gentle summer rain. Not just the thirst, but the whole body is "quenched" and the actors in the commercial dance with joy.
