Two of the important issues facing our society today are the matters of the family (see our column for Proper 8) and the role of parents. We have always recognized how important parents are, but in recent decades the parenting task seems to have become even more important while at the same time more difficult. So many influences shape our children that parents begin to wonder what their role is and where their influence fits into this network that forms our children's lives -- television, peers, and school.
