This passage is the earliest recorded witness to the institution of the Lord's Supper. Paul had written all of his epistles prior to the writing of the Gospels (according to most scholars). In the church I serve, the congregation receives the sacrament of holy communion on the first Sunday of each month. Partaking of the Lord's Supper is a wonderful way to begin each of the year's twelve months. Recently I shared this poem with parishioners:
Come dine with Jesus Christ, sinners far and wide;
Come sup the cup of agape love with the Savior Divine;
