Paul describes the people of God and their disposition of piety in a manner that makes the focused nature of their waiting apparent. It is reminiscent of the way an expectant mother exhibits a virtual nesting instinct. There are things that must be done: a nursery prepared, certain articles purchased, and plans made. Absolutely nothing else can easily take precedence over the satisfaction of these preparations. As time draws nearer and nearer the urgency intensifies. Paul suggests the people of God are to prepare themselves for Christ's coming similarly.
