Paul Gallico's novel The Poseidon Adventure is an exciting story of a handful of survivors of the luxury liner, Poseidon, overturned in a violent storm. When a rescue ship carries the survivors to safety, one of the fortunate is greatly depressed. He has to ask why a young boy who had been helpful to them had been lost. Why should a drunken man and his girlfriend who had left their party be saved? Why should the brave but lunatic young pastor, who had given them courage to try escape, be lost and another, who was all heart, also be lost? Why had he himself survived?
