Paul learned, from bitter experience, the importance of stressing, in his life and preaching, the primacy of Jesus Christ. In Athens, he had departed from his usual style and had tried to argue with the philosophers on their own terms, which resulted in his being cruelly rejected. When he then went to Corinth, he professed the determination to "know nothing" except Jesus Christ. Others have learned similar lessons. Dr. Rueben A. Torry, a powerful evangelist who was associated with Dwight L. Moody in many of his campaigns, took self-inventory at one point in his career.
