Paul, in this passage, reiterates the inscrutable mysteries of God and God's calling of certain of the unlikely to do the Lord's work. For all practical purposes, there may have been some in Ephesus, as in other places where Paul preached and taught, who were highly perplexed that this former rabble rouser and stone thrower at Christians should be the very one whose tireless labors would give birth to the early church. Much of God's workings and callings for ministry are enshrouded in deep mystery and paradox.
