Peter implies that Jesus should return to the town where more people were waiting for healing, but Jesus' response that they should continue on to neighboring towns shows that Jesus was clear about his main mission.
In our own age, we have seen someone else who was clear about his mission: Nelson Mandela in South Africa. In opposition to the policy of apartheid, he first joined the anti-apartheid African National Congress in 1944. Between 1956-61 he was tried for treason because of his stance and acquitted. His opponents finally managed to imprison Mandela in 1962 for his advocacy of sabotage. It was only in 1990 that his release from prison was secured. Within a year of his release he was elected president of the A. N. C. By 1993 this former prisoner shared a Nobel Prize with F. W. de Klerk for their role in the elimination of the policy of apartheid.
In 1994 Mandela was elected South Africa's President, a visible sign of new circumstances, the ones that he had envisioned.
