The poem "Footprints" inspires and encourages many people who are going through a difficult time. The imagery is very powerful: two sets of footprints can be seen as Jesus walks with a person. As times become more strenuous, one set of footprints can be seen as Jesus carries the person. It is a powerful piece because we can feel for the person. We can imagine the grief, pain, injustice, or loneliness being suffered. We can also imagine the comfort it is to be carried by Jesus. It seems strange when a person looks back on a lifetime and claims the "sad" or "difficult" times were the best. But people will share that when they went through a struggle, they felt closest to God. During times of pressure, stress, or fear, they turned to God for comfort. It is then that we hear Jesus' answer to us: "My precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and trouble when you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."
