The professor brought his class to order with a slow, steady, roving gaze. It was a look that said, "I will speak when you are ready to listen," not a command, but an invitation. A professor of New Testament, he had taught thousands of students over the years. But these would be the last. He was ready to retire. Still, he looked forward to this semester, this final direct encounter with student minds, most of them eager to learn. His students always taught him a thing or two in the process. He knew this last class would be no exception.
