The prophet instructed the people that they were to "hate evil and love good." What kind of evil do you suppose he was talking about? Where do we see evil that we should oppose? Amos was not selective in his condemnation of evil; wherever he encountered it, he exposed it. The Latin word for evil is malus, and it is used as a prefix for any number of words suggesting how widespread the influence of evil is in life. Just look up in a dictionary all the manifestations of malus: Malpractice is a practice that is evil. Malefactor is a criminal who performs evil. Malfeasance is evil doing.
