The other day I visited a deeply religious man in the hospital. He told me how terribly distressed he had been to learn he must have brain surgery. At first, he says, he fell apart. But, a day later, he had an overwhelming experience of the Divine Presence with an assurance that "everything will be alright." Peace flooded his inner being. He knew he could handle whatever came. He would "go his way" -- his faith having made him "well." He had experienced an inner healing of his real person that would make him impervious to whatever happened to his body. And surely, this new frame of mind would enhance everything that would be done for him medically.
