Reverend John Harris made a bold move in his first month as senior pastor of Central Presbyterian Church. Central had the largest physical plant and the most financial resources in the Presbytery, but had a small and declining membership due to its inner-city location. Yet the congregation didn't feel the need to change because they were able to get along financially, thanks to an enormous endowment fund.
