Risky giving. A young monk named Brother Angelo, at the direction of his master, Francis of Assisi, practiced it. With harsh and judgmental words, Brother Angelo had turned away some hungry beggars, whom he knew to be criminals. When Francis learned of it, he gently chided Angelo for having turned away these frightening, but hungry men. He suggested that the only way to make good on his error was to take a sack of bread and a pitcher of wine to the bandits' encampment.
