Robert Raines, Director of Kirkridge, a retreat and study center in the mountains of eastern Pennsylvania near the spectacular Delaware Water Gap, tells of the millions of gypsy moths that infested the trees in the area one June. In particular he was concerned about one lone oak tree that was leafless and lifeless. Stripped of its sheltering leaves, the tree stood there with not much sign of any promise.
