Ron, a 26-year-old Nebraska bean farmer, met an acquaintance at the post office. Ron mentioned that he was on his way out to check his trees.

Aware that many high plains farmers grow protective fences of trees, the other man said, "Are you replenishing your wind break already, Ron?"

"Actually," Ron said, "it's a stand of nut trees."

"Nut trees! Out here?" the acquaintance said. "I thought you'd stick to beans."
