Ron was close to death...
Illustration
Ron was close to death. His bone cancer had spread rapidly. He now spent more time sleeping than he did awake. When he was awake, his mother and I listened as he spoke about the beautiful woman he saw in his dreams. When he was asleep, we watched his lips move as if he were in conversation.
During one of his sleeping periods we heard Ron say, "But I don't know how to swim." As his mom and I looked at each other, he said, "But I can't get across. I'm afraid of water, and I don't know how to swim."
