Roy Malone, a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, recently told of a conversation he had with the chief of the homicide division of the St. Louis police. There are an average of 250 murders a year in the metropolitan area of this Missouri city, and the reporter wanted to know the reason for all of the violence.
