The runner wore blue running shorts and a blue singlet when he ran the Boston Marathon. For the first 20 miles the excitement of the race and his training were sufficient for the demand of Boston's hills. But at 21 miles, at the crest of Heartbreak Hill his energies began to wane. With about two miles to go his energies seemed to evaporate. He had hit what runners call "the wall." Slowing to a walk he struggled to put one foot in front of the other. Two young boys were watching the race from the sidewalk. They jogged out next to him.
