A Russian fisherman, walking along...
Illustration
A Russian fisherman, walking along the beach of Vilkilski Strait in the Arctic, found a bottle in the sand. The message inside was written in both Norwegian and English. However, it was incomprehensible even when translated. The message: "Five ponies and 150 dogs remaining. Desire hay, fish, and 30 sleds. Must return early in August. Baldwin."
This message, found in 1948, became clear when it was learned that the polar explorer Evelyn Baldwin had sealed the note and sent it in 1902. Incidentally, Baldwin did survive the Arctic without the hay, fish, and 30 sleds.
