Salvation means turning from our will and way to an acceptance of Jesus as our Lord and
Savior. The recent conversion of Evel Knievel, the famous motorcycle distance jumper,
is a classic example of conversion or salvation. Evel's early life was a life of crime,
womanizing, and reckless living. A jailer gave him the name Evel after he had been
thrown in prison. The name stuck. Everything he tried sooner or later failed.
Finally, early in 2007, he turned from his reckless way of living and asked for God's forgiveness. He told how for 68 years he refused to accept Christ because he didn't want to give up the gold, the gambling, the booze, and the women. Suddenly, at age 68 he accepted Christ and asked Robert Schuler of the Crystal Cathedral to baptize him. Schuler, after meeting him and assured of his genuine conversion and change of life, planned a baptism for April 1, 2007, at the Crystal Cathedral. At his baptism, he gave a powerful testimony of being delivered from the power of evil and being sincere in his desire to live a Christian life. Many people had been praying for his salvation, and his conversion was real.
