To say, "The Word became Flesh," is to declare that God, against all expectation, identified in the most immediate way imaginable with the most ordinary of us.
During the Blitz of London in 1940, as the Nazis were battering Britain with night raids from the sky, the city's East End was brutally assaulted. Queen Elizabeth (mother of the present queen) was particularly concerned for the welfare of the poor people of London, holding out so gallantly but at such great cost to themselves.
