The scandal of servanthood
Commentary
On the solemn evening of what has come to be called Maundy Thursday, we customarily gather to recall the last supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his death. Since Jesus and his friends were celebrating the Feast of the Passover, and Jesus selected two elements of the Passover table for the eucharist, it is natural for us to connect the deliverance of the Hebrews from bondage in Egypt with the deliverance from sin that Jesus made possible at Calvary.
