In both its original Japanese and later American versions the movie, Shall We Dance? was a big hit. A lonely businessman, trapped in the repetitions of unfulfilling work, notices a young woman gazing with forlorn sadness from a second floor dance studio. Desperate for some change in his routine and intrigued by her wistful solitude, the man uncharacteristically bounds out of his predetermined path and hesitantly climbs the stairs to the school.
