Sheila Cassidy, a missionary in Chile, was arrested and spent three weeks in solitary confinement and five weeks in a detention camp. She was then expelled from the country. She said of the experience, "In some strange way, the pain which I had suffered was [God's] gift ... it was an unmistakable sign of his love. In some mysterious way, I had been permitted to share in the ministry of life and death, of the Incarnation and the Cross." (From her book, Audacity to Believe.)
