Sitting in the waiting room at the obstetrician's office, Dave took a hard look at his life. He had a good job at the bank, a nice house and two cars, but physically he had let himself go. He had been a good athlete in high school, although he had fallen into a smoking habit when he was 14. During college, he had begun putting on weight and now carried an extra 35 pounds on his 5-foot-11-inch frame. He knew his blood pressure and cholesterol were hovering around the upper limits of normal.
