As small children many of us learned the old trick of focusing the power of the sun through a magnifying glass. There hung the sun up in the sky all bright and warm, casting its rays in more directions than we could imagine. In our hand we clutched a small lens, just one or two inches in diameter. Carefully moving that lens up and down we formed a fierce point of light and in that light we could burn a piece of paper, turn a leaf to smoke, or (most of us tried it at least once) fry an ant. Amazing! Our minds jumped at the wonder of it.
