The story is told of a mason who was working high up in the tower of a large country church. He slipped and fell to his certain death. But just then a little lamb came by. The man fell on the back of the little lamb and broke its back.
After the workman was released from the hospital, he began a plan which he executed when he returned to work. Over the entrance to the church he carved a little lamb whose back had been broken to save mankind. Under the carving he wrote the words:
O Lamb of God
who takes away
the sin of the world,
